Birthday Dining in Brixton

A birthday dinner does not necessarily need balloons tied to every chair and a room full of people singing at you.

Sometimes the better version is simply getting everyone you actually want around one table, ordering good food, opening a few bottles and letting somebody else worry about dinner.

The Laundry is built for exactly that sort of birthday.

Our neighbourhood bistro on Coldharbour Lane works for everything from smaller birthday dinners to group celebrations, with seasonal food, cocktails, wine and dedicated group dining spaces available for larger tables.

One table, everyone together

The difficult part of planning a birthday meal is often finding somewhere that can actually fit everyone without making the group feel like it has been divided into separate restaurants.

Our group dining spaces can seat up to 36 guests, giving larger birthday celebrations the option to sit together while still feeling part of The Laundry rather than being moved into a generic event room.

Smaller groups can simply book into the restaurant and let the evening run like any other dinner.

Food people actually want for their birthday

The autumn menu gives the table plenty of ways to approach things.

Start with smaller dishes and share across the table, or move into individual mains including Wagyu beef and black olive pie, Steak Frites, chalk stream trout puttanesca, Crown Prince pumpkin and chickpea massaman or duck confit with mustard lentils and liquorice cranberries.

Dessert is where birthdays tend to become less restrained.

There is sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce and vanilla ice cream, lemon posset brûlée with burnt butter shortbread and triple chocolate brownie with hokey pokey bon bon and crème.

Sharing remains technically optional.

Wine, cocktails and the first round

Founder Melanie Brown is a Chef Sommelier, so if the birthday calls for a good bottle, you are in the right place.

The wine list combines European classics with New Zealand influence, while the cocktail list moves through Margaritas, Negronis, Cosmopolitans, an Aviation Sour and an Old Fashioned made with Brixton Aged Rum and Manuka honey.

For weekday birthdays, L’Apéro runs from 5pm to 7pm with £10 cocktails and £6 house wine and pints, which makes a particularly sensible start to proceedings.

Birthday dinner without turning it into an event production

Not every celebration needs an itinerary.

Book the table, get everybody to Brixton and let us handle the food and drinks.

Whether you are organising dinner for six or gathering a much larger group, The Laundry gives you the room to make a proper occasion of it without losing the relaxed neighbourhood feel that brought everyone here in the first place.
