Restaurants in Brixton

Brixton does not make choosing where to eat easy.

There is always somewhere new to try, another table being recommended and at least one person in the group who has not looked at the menu yet.

The Laundry keeps things simple. We are an all-day neighbourhood restaurant, café, bar, wine shop and covered terrace on Coldharbour Lane, serving proper food from breakfast through to the evening.

Come for brunch. Stop by for a midweek plate. Settle in for dinner, cocktails and a bottle worth taking your time over.

The kitchen never sleeps, and there is very little pressure to leave once the table is good.

All-day dining on Coldharbour Lane

The Laundry moves with the day.

Weekday breakfast and brunch begin from 8:30am, weekend food starts from 10am and the evening menu takes over from 3:30pm, Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, brunch and seasonal lunch plates are served from 10am to 4pm, with the bar staying open until 5pm.

That makes us useful for more than one kind of plan.

A quick breakfast before work can become coffee number two. Lunch can roll into L’Apéro. A table booked for dinner can begin with a drink at the bar and finish whenever everyone accepts they are ordering dessert.

Seasonal food, cooked properly

The menu takes its cues from the classic European bistros, neighbourhood cafés and wine bars that have shaped Chef Sommelier Melanie Brown’s approach to hospitality.

Expect familiar dishes with enough character to keep things interesting, from generous brunch plates and bistro favourites to seasonal evening cooking. Recent menus have featured dishes including steak frites, duck confit and veal piccata, alongside snacks, desserts and plates made for sharing.

Nothing is here simply to fill space on the menu.

Come hungry, order what sounds good and let the table work out the rest.

Wine, cocktails and L’Apéro

Food is only part of the decision.

The Laundry is also a wine shop and bar, with a carefully chosen list shaped by Melanie’s background as a Chef Sommelier.

Every weekday from 5pm to 7pm, L’Apéro brings £10 house cocktails alongside £6 pints and house wine. It is a useful bridge between the working day and whatever you would rather be doing instead.

Start with one drink at the bar. Nobody needs to know what happens next.

Inside or on the terrace

The covered and heated terrace runs alongside the restaurant, serving food, cocktails and wine throughout the day.

It works for sunny lunches, cooler evenings and the large portion of London weather that sits somewhere between the two.

Terrace tables can be requested when booking, subject to availability. Inside, there are tables throughout the restaurant and seats at the bar for walk-ins, quick plates and less organised plans.

Near Brixton Station and Brixton Village

You will find The Laundry at 374 Coldharbour Lane, a short walk from Brixton Station, Brixton Village and Electric Avenue.

That makes us an easy place to meet before a gig, begin a day in Brixton or rescue the group from another ten minutes of deciding where to eat.
