Midweek plans become much more appealing when there is a £15 plat du jour involved.
From Monday to Wednesday, The Laundry serves a different bistro favourite each day, giving Brixton locals a very good reason to swap another evening at home for a table on Coldharbour Lane.
There is the Fish Brioche Burger to start the week, Pie of the Week with free corkage on Tuesday and Steak Frites with café de Paris butter on Wednesday.
Proper food, a useful price and no need to wait for the weekend.
A little something to look forward to
The plat du jour is a classic bistro tradition, built around one dish chosen by the kitchen and served for the day.
Our midweek version keeps things equally simple. Three of The Laundry’s favourite plates take their turn across the week for lunch and dinner, each available for £15.
Monday brings a panko-crusted Fish Brioche Burger with preserved lemon tartare. Tuesday is reserved for the kitchen’s Pie of the Week, with the filling changing regularly. By Wednesday, it is time for Steak Frites, served with grilled bavette, café de Paris butter and fries.
The dish changes. The price does not.
Proper bistro food without the occasion
Not every meal out needs a birthday, an anniversary or a booking made three weeks in advance.
Sometimes it is Tuesday, nobody feels like cooking and a proper pie sounds considerably better than whatever is waiting in the fridge.
That is where the plats du jour come in. They are generous, familiar dishes made with the same care as the rest of the menu, simply served at a price that makes an unplanned midweek table feel easy.
Come for one plate, add something to share and stay for a glass of wine. The evening can work the rest out.
Tuesdays are for the good bottle
Tuesday’s Pie of the Week also arrives with free corkage, meaning you can bring along a bottle of your own without paying the usual corkage fee.
It might be something you have been saving for the right meal, something recommended by the wine shop around the corner or simply the bottle already sitting at home.

From one plate to L’Apéro
A midweek meal does not have to end when the plate is cleared.
From Monday to Friday, L’Apéro runs between 5pm and 7pm, with £10 cocktails alongside £6 pints and house wine.
That makes the plats du jour particularly useful for an after-work catch-up, an early table before an evening in Brixton or a quick dinner that gradually becomes less quick.
Start with the day’s dish. Stay for a drink. Order another because nobody appears to be in a hurry.
